How to use session breaks on Jomo?

Sometimes, while you're in the middle of a blocking session, you may need a short break to refresh or briefly use a blocked app. That's where session breaks come in! Jomo provides a flexible yet structured way to take short, timed breaks without completely derailing your focus. In this article, we'll guide you through how to effectively use and configure session breaks on Jomo.

How to Take a Break

You have two options for initiating a break:

Option 1: From a Blocked App

Open an app that is currently blocked by Jomo.
A screen will appear with the option to "Take a break."
Tap "Take a break," and you'll be redirected to the Jomo app.
On the start break screen, use the timer to select how long you want the break to last.
Tap "Unlock" to start the break.

Option 2: From the Jomo App

Open the Jomo app.
Navigate to "Rules/Focus" > "Sessions."
Locate the session you are currently in.
Tap the "Take a break" button.
On the start break screen, use the timer to select how long you want the break to last.
Tap "Unlock" to start the break.

Configuring Break Settings

You can fine-tune how breaks behave for each session. Here's how to do it:

Open the Jomo app.
Navigate to "Rules/Focus" > "Sessions."
Locate the session you want to modify and tap on it.
On the detail screen, tap on “Breaks.”

Available Settings

Maximum Number of Breaks: Set a limit on how many breaks you can take during a session.
Maximum Break Duration: Set a limit on how long a single break can last (e.g., 15 minutes).
Cooldown Duration: Set the time you need to wait between two consecutive breaks (e.g., 30 minutes).
Delay Before Unlocking: Choose to set a delay before you can actually use the blocked apps. This delay can either be:
‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎ Automatic: The delay will increase with each break taken.
‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎ Fixed: Set a fixed time duration as the delay.
Pre-Break Exercise: Before unlocking, you can be prompted to:
‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎ Fill Out an Intention: Briefly jot down what you plan to do during the break.
‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎‏‏‎ ‎ Enter a Cumbersome Passcode: A complicated passcode to make you think twice before taking a break.

That's all you need to know about using and configuring session breaks on Jomo! Use them wisely to make your screen time more intentional and focused.
