How to use session breaks on Jomo?

How do the “Breaks” work on Jomo? We explain!

You've set up a blocking rule, but all of a sudden you feel the urge to consult one of your apps, just for 2 minutes, to reply to a message. Problem: it's blocked!

To avoid this kind of frustration, and make the rules stick over the long term, we've created “Breaks”. A simple yet flexible way of making short interruptions to your rules, without getting lost in endless scrolling.

☑️ How to activate Breaks?

To get started, you can create a template or a blocking rule.
Go to Rules > ➕ or Rules > Templates > + Add.
Set up your rule, then activate the “Breaks” option.
Choose what suits you best
Validate, launch!

⏸️ How do I take a break?

There are two ways to take a break. ☝️** If one doesn't work, try the second.

Option 1: From a blocked application

Open an application that is currently blocked by Jomo.
A screen will appear with the “Pause” option.
Tap on “Pause”, and you'll be redirected to the Jomo application.
On the pause start screen, select the pause duration.
Press “Unlock” to start the pause.

Option 2: From the Jomo application

Open the Jomo application.
Navigate to “Rules/Focus” > “Sessions”.
Locate the session you are currently in.
Press the “Pause” button.
On the pause start screen, select the pause duration.
Tap on “Unlock” to start the pause.

🛠️ How can I change the length or number of Breaks?

Do you feel you're losing control and want to impose more restrictions on yourself? Don't worry, you can change the breaks to suit your preferences.
Open your blocking rule or create a new one
Customize your rule, then press “Breaks”.
In the section “Allowed Breaks”, you can press “Limited. In fact, you can authorize only a limited number of breaks per day.
Scroll to the bottom of the screen, then in the “More” section, you'll see “Max. break duration”. You can change this value to make your breaks much shorter.
You can also add a delay between pauses, if required.
Then confirm!

🔥 How can I add friction to my breaks?

Would you like a little more challenge before using your apps? No worries, we've got you covered: Friction. On Jomo, it's possible to have:
Warning: A great way to be more aware of your usage.
Delay: Wait for a fixed or automatic delay (which increases progressively) before using your apps. A perfect way to reduce compulsive use.
Random code : Learn a code before unlocking your apps. You can adjust the number of characters (up to 200) and make it really difficult!

To activate one of these options:
Press on your rule or create a new one
Press the “Breaks” section, then in the “Friction” section, choose the one you like.
Confirm!

✋ How can I prevent Breaks from being activated on my rule?

You didn't want Breaks, but you can't help it? Don't worry, we've got the solution. To avoid activating pauses along the way, we recommend that you apply Mode Strict to your rule. This blocks the editing of a rule once it's active. Learn more about Strict Mode
