[Mac App] How to block websites on your Mac using Jomo?
On Jomo for Mac, blocking works differently than on the iPhone/iPad version. Some features like Limits & Actions aren't available on Mac. However, blocking is more advanced on Mac and lets you filter keywords in addition to blocking apps and websites.
How can I block a category of websites?
- Open Jomo.
- Click
+ New Rule
. - Click
Recurring Session
. - In Block > Apps & Websites, click
Websites
. - Select a list.
- Click
Save
.
Note: If some sites aren't blocked, you can manually add them using the text field under the categories.
How can I block a specific website?
Two options
- Categories – Block an entire pre-filled category provided by Jomo.
- Websites – Block specific sites of your choice.
- Open Jomo.
- Click
+ New Rule

. - In Block > Apps & Websites, click

. - In the text field, type the site you want to block.
- Click

How can I block just part of a site or a subdomain?
Examples
- Block a feature (e.g., YouTube Shorts).
- Block a subdomain (e.g., a specific subreddit).
- Open Jomo.
- Click

YouTube.com/shorts/

How to use the * wildcard to block websites?
Examples
- Block all URLs containing a specific word.
- Block all searches containing a specific word.
Let’s say you want to eliminate all cat-related content from your life
- Open Jomo.
- Click
+ New Rule

. - In Block > Apps & Websites, click
Websites
. - In the text field, enter:
*cat*
(blocks any URL with the word "cat")- or
google.com/*q=*cat*
(blocks Google searches for "cat")
Note: Avoid blocking very short words. Many URLs include long random strings, which could unintentionally trigger blocks.
How can I import my own list of websites to block?
- Open Jomo.
- Click
+ New Rule

Import Selection From File

Note: Make sure the file is in plain text format (.txt
) with one website per line.
