How to Fix App Limits That Aren’t Working?

In this article, you’ll find all the useful information you need about Time Limit issues: time going over the limit while apps are not blocked, apps being blocked even though the limit has not been reached, and more. We recommend taking your time and carefully following the instructions.

How to Fix Apps Blocking Too Late?

Refresh the Limit:

  1. Open Jomo.
  2. Go to Rules, then tap your limit.
  3. At the bottom, tap Refresh.
  4. Wait a few seconds. Repeat if needed.

Remove Restrictions Outside of Jomo:

  1. Uninstall all other screen time apps. Even if you don’t use them, they can create conflicts with Jomo.
  2. Turn off Screen Time restrictions, such as App Limits and Downtime. These can create conflicts with Jomo.

Select the Website in Addition to the App:

  1. Open Jomo.
  2. Go to Rules, then tap your limit.
  3. In Block, select both the app and the website, for example, Instagram and instagram.com, or Reddit and reddit.com.
  4. Confirm by tapping .

Reconnect Jomo to Screen Time:

  1. Open this link on your iPhone.
  2. When Jomo shows the permission prompt, tap Allow.
  3. Go to Rules, then tap ?.
  4. Tap Reset blocking.

Turn Off Real-Time Tracking:

Jomo uses two tracking methods for limits. If one of them isn’t working correctly, use the other one instead.

  1. Open Jomo.
  2. Go to Rules.
  3. Tap ?, then scroll all the way down and turn off Real-time tracking.

Use a Lock Instead of a Limit

If none of the methods above worked, we recommend setting up a Lock. This blocking method does not rely on the same technology and is much more reliable.

Lock vs. Limit: the app is blocked by default. By allowing Unlocks, you can get a total amount of allowed time similar to a Limit. Depending on the number of allowed Unlocks and the maximum duration of each Unlock, you should be able to match the time from your limit.

  1. Open Jomo.
  2. Go to Rules, then tap Start blocking.
  3. Choose Lock an app.
  4. Tap Choose an app, then select your app from the list.
  5. Tap or + to add Unlocks per day.
  6. Tap For 5 min each time to change the maximum duration of an Unlock.
  7. Tap Wait to unblock to change the friction.
  8. Tap Add to add it.

How to Fix Apps Blocking Too Early?

You can follow all the previous instructions, along with this one.

Prevent Other Devices from Counting Screen Time for the App:

  1. Open the iPhone Settings app.
  2. Tap Screen Time.
  3. Turn off Share Across Devices.

The change will only take effect 24 hours later. If the issue still persists, please completely turn off Screen Time on the second device, especially if it’s a Mac.
