How to sync blocking sessions between iPhone, iPad and Mac using Jomo?

You want to launch two sessions simultaneously on your iPhone and Mac without having to do it manually? Here's how.

⚠️ This solution is temporary. We're working on syncing across devices so that this will be natively supported by Jomo. This requires significant changes to our apps. We appreciate your patience.

To launch a session on both your Mac and iPhone at the same time, we’ll use Focus Modes (available on both iPhone and Mac). This method works perfectly, and we'll show you how to set it all up.

🌙 What is a Focus Mode?

Since 2021, Apple introduced the "Focus" feature, available in the Settings of your iPhone, Mac, and iPad. It lets you quickly adjust your device's setup without having to reconfigure everything (wallpaper, app organization, color options, etc.). By default, the available modes are: "Do Not Disturb," "Sleep," and "Work." You can activate these modes manually, automatically, or when you open certain apps.

For each of these modes, you can add additional filters, including actions for third-party apps. With this system, you can, for example, start a Jomo session when your Focus Mode is activated.

The main advantage of using Focus Modes is that they can be shared across Apple devices signed in with the same Apple ID. If you start a Focus mode on your iPhone, it will automatically activate on your Mac! Pretty cool, right?

Open the Jomo app on your iPhone/iPad.
Create a blocking session template by tapping "➕ Add" > "Session" in the "Templates" section.
Set up your session according to your preferences. This is where you can choose which apps will be blocked. In the "Timing" section, make sure to select "Permanent".
Save your template.

Now, go to your iPhone Settings:

Open Settings, then tap "Focus".
Ensure the "Share Across Devices" option is enabled.
Select the Focus Mode of your choice (or create a new one).
Set it up as needed, then at the bottom of the page, tap "➕ Add Filter".
From the list of apps, choose Jomo ("Start a session during this focus").
Select your template from the list, then confirm by tapping "Done".

Open Settings, then tap "Focus".

Set it up as desired, then scroll down and tap "➕ Add Filter".
From the list of apps, choose Jomo ("Start a session during this focus").
Choose your template from the list and confirm by tapping "Add".

Open the Jomo app on your Mac.
Create a blocking session template by clicking "➕ Add" > "Session" in the "Templates" section.
Set up your session according to your preferences. This is where you can choose which apps will be blocked. In the "Timing" section, make sure to select "Permanent".
Save your template.

Now, go to your System Settings on your Mac:

Open System Settings, then go to "Focus".
Make sure the "Share Across Devices" option is enabled.
Select the Focus Mode of your choice (or create a new one).
Set it up as you like, then scroll down and click "➕ Add Filter".
From the list of apps, choose Jomo ("Start a session during this focus").
Choose your template from the list and confirm by clicking "Done".

↔️ How to sync Focus Modes between iPhone & Mac?

If you’ve chosen the same Focus Mode on both your iPhone and Mac and have enabled the "Share Across Devices" option, all you need to do is activate the mode on one of your devices, and it will be activated on all of them.

A Jomo session will then start automatically on both devices!

🛠️ Focus Mode not launching simultaneously? Please check that your devices are using the same Apple ID.
