How to Start With Jomo?

In this article, you’ll find all the useful information you need about the Jomo app for iOS: adding a rule, editing or deleting it, managing the different blocking settings, and learning more about how Rules work in Jomo. We recommend taking your time and carefully following the instructions.

What Is Jomo For?

Jomo is a screen time tracking and app blocking app. Its goal is to help you reduce your screen time by cutting out distractions when you need to. The app offers many different blocking Rules, allowing you to regain control of your habits on your own terms.

How to Block Apps or Websites?

To block content, whether apps or websites, you’ll find all the options in one place: the Rules tab. This is where you can manage 100% of your blocked content.

To block apps or websites:

  1. Open the Jomo app.
  2. Go to Rules ▸ Start blocking.
  3. Choose one of the available rules.
  4. Configure it according to your preferences.
  5. Confirm.

How to Understand the Different Options

In Jomo, you can block apps in many different ways.

  1. Block now: Lets you block for a short period of time. For example, for 30 minutes.
  2. Block on a schedule: Lets you block for a specific recurring time period. For example, every day from 9 AM to 5 PM.
  3. Lock an app: Lets you continuously block an app, with only a few timed openings per day. For example, TikTok blocked all the time with 3 openings allowed per day.
  4. Set a time limit: Lets you set a maximum daily time budget for an app. For example, a maximum of 15 minutes per day on Instagram.
  5. Complete habits: Lets you unlock apps only after completing certain actions, or earn time on your apps by completing actions. For example, “Do the dishes” unlocks 15 minutes of YouTube, or walking 5,000 steps fully unlocks Netflix.

These rules are 100% customizable based on your preferences.

How to Choose the Content to Block

The process is the same for each rule.

  2. Then choose a rule.
  3. Tap the Block section, then Only.
  4. Select apps or websites, then tap .
  5. Finish the setup, then add the rule.

Please note: you can only select up to 49 websites and 49 apps. This technical limitation is imposed by Apple and applies to every screen time app.

Block Everything Except a Few Apps:

  1. Tap Start blocking.
  2. Then choose Create a schedule or Block now.
  3. Tap the Block section, then All except.
  4. Select apps, then tap .
  5. Finish the setup, then add the rule.

  6. Name it according to your preferences, then tap Create.
  7. Finish the setup, then add the rule.

This group will be saved and you’ll be able to reuse it later. To edit it, tap your app group again at the top, then tap Manage app groups, or go directly from Rules ▸  ▸ App groups.

This applies to all rule types:

  1. Tap the relevant card.
  2. Tap Delete at the bottom.
  3. Tap Delete anyway.

How Do I Know If My Rule Is Blocking Content Correctly?

Each rule clearly displays its status: Not blockingBlockingOngoing, or Upcoming.

From Jomo:

  1. Open the Rules tab.
  2. Under the title, check the number of active rules.
  3. On your rule, check the badge.
  4. On your rule’s detail screen, read the description.

From the blocked app:

  1. Look at the icon shown on the screen, which should be Jomo’s app icon.
  2. Look at the name of the blocking rule: Blocked by …

If none of these appear and you don’t have any active rules, please check that you don’t have another screen time app installed or restrictions set up through Screen Time. If that’s the case, Jomo won’t be able to help. We recommend contacting their customer support directly for further assistance.

How Can I Temporarily Pause My Rules?

Only Sessions can be skipped. For other rule types, we recommend temporarily increasing your limits, either time or number of openings.

Skip the Next Occurrence:

  1. Tap your Session card.
  2. Tap Snooze at the bottom.
  3. Select Next occurrence if you only want to skip it once.
  4. Select Until I reactivate it if you want to skip it multiple times.

To reactivate it, simply tap the card, then Reactivate.

How to Save a Rule for Later?

If you like a specific setup, you can save it to your Templates so you can reuse it multiple times or launch it later.

Add to Templates:

  1. Tap Start blocking.
  2. Configure your rule according to your preferences.
  3. Tap New template.

To delete it, tap the template card, then Delete.

How to Make Blocking Very Strict?

By default, Jomo does not prevent a rule from being deleted or modified while it’s active. To strengthen this protection, you can enable Strict Mode.
