How To Set Up Jomo For Kids?
In this article, we’ll explain how to set up Jomo so it’s suitable for younger users: which configurations we recommend and how to set everything up properly. Please follow the instructions carefully.
First, please note that 🛑 Jomo is not a parental control app. We will not develop parent-child specific features. If you want a very strict solution with 24/7 parental supervision, please use a dedicated solution or Apple Screen Time.

Jomo: Who Is It For?
Jomo is an app that lets you block apps, regardless of your age. The app helps users manage their screen time independently. Its Rules system allows everyone to find a way to limit phone use based on their habits, schedule, and personal interests. Jomo is not specifically designed for children or families. That said, depending on the child’s age and maturity, the app can be used in a family context.
How to Set Up Jomo for Your Child?
We recommend setting up Jomo with your child, so you can create Rules that match their real habits and needs, and avoid frustration later.
Setup is done directly on the person’s device. It is not possible to set up or manage a Jomo account remotely for someone else. Each device = one account. Multi-account use is not allowed and will not be supported.
Which Rules Should You Set Up?
Phone use can become problematic in different ways: the type of content viewed, such as adult content, the amount of time spent, or helping with prioritization, like homework vs. TikTok. For each of these issues, we recommend different Rules with adapted configurations.
Block Adult Content
For this type of content, we recommend strict and permanent blocking to protect children from explicit content that is not appropriate for them.
- Install and open Jomo.
- Tap Start Blocking, then Block on a schedule.
- In Block, tap Additional Options & Websites, then Adult Content.
- Confirm by tapping ✓.
- In Active, choose Always-On.
- In Unlocks, leave it on No.
- Turn on Strict Mode.
- Choose Always, then select Enter a password.
- Enter a password, then tap Turn on Strict Mode.
- Finally, confirm by tapping Start.

Set a Curfew
To protect your child’s sleep, experts recommend turning off screens 1 to 2 hours before bedtime. Based on these recommendations, we suggest setting up a digital curfew to protect your child from nighttime scrolling.
- Install and open Jomo.
- Tap Start Blocking, then Block on a schedule.
- In Block, choose All Apps & Categories.
- Confirm by tapping ✓.
- In Active, choose Scheduled, then set the time you want.
- In Unlocks, leave it on No.
- Finally, confirm by tapping Schedule.
📛 You can turn on Strict Mode if needed, to make sure your child cannot bypass the rule.

Protect Learning Time
To prevent your child from being distracted during learning time, whether during school hours or homework time, you can block certain highly distracting apps.
- Install and open Jomo.
- Tap Start Blocking, then Block on a schedule.
- In Block, choose the distracting apps.
- Confirm by tapping ✓.
- In Active, choose Scheduled, then set the time you want.
- Finally, confirm by tapping Schedule.
📛 You can turn on Strict Mode if needed, to make sure your child cannot bypass the rule.

Avoid Overuse
Some apps are optimized to capture time and attention. They can very quickly take up a large part of our day if we don’t regulate usage. For younger users, this self-regulation can be more difficult. For that reason, we suggest limiting daily time spent.
- Install and open Jomo.
- Tap Start Blocking, then Set a time limit.
- In Block, choose the apps you want to limit.
- In After, choose the maximum time by tapping Time spent, then leave On… Selected Apps and Lock until… Tomorrow.
- In Active, choose the days you want.
- In Extra-Unlocks, leave it on No.
- In Be Notified, leave it on No.
- Finally, confirm by tapping Schedule.
📛 You can turn on Strict Mode if needed, to make sure your child cannot bypass the rule.

Motivate Your Child Day to Day
Obviously, scrolling on TikTok is 100% more fun than cleaning, emptying the dishwasher, tidying a room, and so on. Motivating your child can be… exhausting, and fighting with them over their phone can be frustrating. That’s why, with Routines, you can require your child to complete tasks in exchange for screen time, automatically managed by Jomo.
- Install and open Jomo.
- Tap Start Blocking, then Complete habits.
- In Unblock, choose the apps affected by this block.
- Confirm by tapping ✓.
- In After, choose Collecting Time, then tap Add a habit.
- In the list, configure the tasks* you want your child to complete.
- To change the time earned, tap the task in the list.
- In Active, choose the days you want.
- Finally, confirm by tapping Schedule.

Here is the list of available tasks:
▸ Use Good Apps: Your child must use a “positive” app to unlock time on other apps. For example, doing their French lesson on Duolingo to earn 10 minutes on TikTok.

▸ Check With Photo (AI): Your child must complete a task of your choice to unlock time on their apps. This task will be checked and verified by AI using a photo. For example, making their bed to earn 5 minutes on Instagram.

▸ Complete Tasks: Your child must complete a task of your choice to unlock time on their apps. This task only needs to be checked off. For example, doing homework to earn 15 minutes on YouTube.

▸ Make Some Moves: Your child must complete a physical activity supported by Apple Health to earn time on their apps. For example, running 4 km to earn 20 minutes on Snapchat.

▸ Take Care Of Yourself: Your child must take care of themselves through tasks supported by Apple Health to earn time on their apps. For example, logging their anxiety level and having their status be “Good” to earn 5 minutes on Messenger.

▸ Scan: Your child must scan an NFC tag or QR code to earn time on their apps. For example, scanning the QR code stuck on the fridge to earn 10 minutes of Clash of Clans.
