How to Automatically Redeem Time on a Routine (Banking Time)?

In this article, we’ll explain how to set up an Automation to redeem time automatically without having to open the Jomo app. It’s a useful time-saver for anyone who wants to go a little further. Please read all instructions carefully.

Which Feature Does This Automation Apply To?

This automation only applies to Routines, especially in Collecting Time mode, meaning the version of Routines where you collect screen time by completing different actions.

Here’s how it works: if you have available time on blocked apps, all you need to do is open one of those apps, and the allowed time will start counting down. As soon as you close the app, the timer will stop.

How to Set Up the Automation to Auto-Redeem Time?

Please make sure you create your Routine before continuing.

Add the “Redeem Time” automation:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app.
  2. Go to Automation ▸ New Automation(iOS 27: Tap the blue New Shortcut button.)
  3. Select App from the list. (iOS 27: Tap the Apple Intelligence icon to switch to List View, then tap Automation and select App.)
  4. Choose the app associated with your Routine. (iOS 27: Tap the blue rectangle next to When.)
  5. Enable Is Opened and Run Immediately(iOS 27: Skip directly to step 8.)
  6. Tap Next.
  7. In the search bar at the bottom, type Jomo, then select Redeem Time.
  8. In the blue field, enter the exact name of your Routine. Be sure it matches exactly, including capitalization.
  9. Tap  / Done to save. (iOS 27: Tap the < button in the top-left corner to go back.)

Add the “Stop Redeem Time” automation:

To stop redeeming time when you close the app, you’ll need to create a second automation. Follow the same steps as above, but in step 8, select Stop Redeem Time instead of Redeem Time.
