# [Mac App] How to block websites on your Mac using Jomo?

On Jomo for Mac, blocking works differently than on the iPhone/iPad version. **Some features like Limits & Actions aren't available on Mac.** However, blocking is more advanced on Mac and lets you filter [keywords](https://help.jomo.so/en/article/mac-app-how-to-block-keywords-on-your-browser-using-jomo-cjtls3/) in addition to blocking [apps](https://help.jomo.so/en/article/mac-app-how-to-block-an-app-on-mac-using-jomo-1pbkg45/) and websites.

# **How can I block a category of websites?**

1. Open **Jomo**.  
2. Click `+ New Rule`.  
3. Click `Recurring Session`.  
4. In **Block** > **Apps** **&** **Websites**, click `Websites`.  
5. Select a list.  
6. Click `Save`.

Note: If some sites aren't blocked, **you can manually add them** using the text field under the categories.

# **How can I block a specific website?**

### Two options

1. **Categories** – Block an entire pre-filled category provided by Jomo.  
2. **Websites** – Block specific sites of your choice.

1. Open **Jomo**.  
2. Click `+ New Rule`.  
3. Click `Recurring Session`.  
4. In **Block** > **Apps & Websites**, click `Websites`.  
5. In the text field, type the site you want to block.  
6. Click `Add`, then `Save`.

# **How can I block just part of a site or a subdomain?**

### Examples

1. Block a feature (e.g., YouTube Shorts).  
2. Block a subdomain (e.g., a specific subreddit).

1. Open Jomo.  
2. Click `+ New Rule`.  
3. Click `Recurring Session`.  
4. In **Block** > **Apps & Websites**, click `Websites`.  
5. In the text field, type something like `YouTube.com/shorts/` or `reddit.com/r/politics/`.

# **How to use the * wildcard to block websites?**

### Examples

1. Block all URLs containing a specific word.  
2. Block all searches containing a specific word.

###### Let’s say you want to eliminate all cat-related content from your life

1. Open **Jomo**.  
2. Click `+ New Rule`.  
3. Click `Recurring Session`.  
4. In **Block** > **Apps & Websites**, click `Websites`.  
5. In the text field, enter:  
* `*cat*` (blocks any URL with the word "cat")  
* or `google.com/*q=*cat*` (blocks Google searches for "cat")

**Note: Avoid blocking very short words. **Many URLs include long random strings, which could unintentionally trigger blocks.

# **How can I import my own list of websites to block?**

1. Open **Jomo**.  
2. Click `+ New Rule`.  
3. Click `Recurring Session`.  
4. In **Block** > **Apps & Websites**, click `Websites`.  
5. Next to `Websites`, click `… More`.  
6. Click `Import Selection From File`.  
7. Click `Add`, then `Save`.

Note: Make sure the file is in **plain text format** (`.txt`) with one website per line.
