How To Get Back "Extra Time" on Time Limits?
In this article, you’ll find everything you need to know about earning extra time by walking, running, and completing other activities after reaching your maximum allowed usage time on an app.

Since version 2.0, the Extra Time feature has been moved from Time Limits to Routines. In this guide, we explain how to migrate from one to the other.
How Can I Earn Extra Time After Reaching a Time Limit?
Please note that this is no longer configured as a Time Limit, but as a Routine with an initial amount of allowed time. In other words, you’ll start with a set amount of available time. Once that time is used up, you’ll need to complete a habit to earn more.
🟢 To automatically convert your compatible Time Limits into Routines, tap ▸ this link
🔴 To manually set up your new Routine, follow the tutorial below.
- Open Jomo.
- Go to Rules.
- Tap Start Blocking.
- Under Unblock, select the app you want to use.
- Under After, choose Collecting Time.
- Tap Start With and choose your initial amount of time.
- Tap Add a Habit and select the action you’d like to complete (you now have many more options to choose from).
- Under Active, choose how much time you want to earn each time you complete the habit.
- Tap Schedule to add your routine.
- Don't forget to delete your old time limit, as it will conflict with your newly created routine.

To use your apps freely, you’ll need to redeem time. You’ll begin with the amount of time you initially configured, and once it’s been used up, you’ll need to complete your chosen habit to earn more.

How to Automatically Redeem Time Without Opening Jomo?
The main difference between a Routine and a Time Limit is that with a Routine, you need to redeem time before you can use the app. You’ll start with an initial balance, and once it’s used up, you’ll need to complete actions (walking, running, etc.) to earn more time.
Normally, you need to open Jomo and manually redeem time (see above). However, you can automate this process using the Shortcuts app.
To do this, you’ll need to create TWO separate automations: one to redeem time when you open the app, and another to stop the usage session when you close it. Follow the steps below.
1. Add "Redeem Time" automation
- Create a Routine in Jomo (see above)
- Open the Shortcuts app.
- Go to Automation ▸ New Automation. (iOS 27: Tap the blue New Shortcut button.)
- Select App from the list. (iOS 27: Tap the Apple Intelligence icon to switch to List View, then tap Automation and select App.)
- Choose the app associated with your Routine. (iOS 27: Tap the blue rectangle next to When.)
- Enable Is Opened and Run Immediately. (iOS 27: Skip directly to step 8.)
- Tap Next.
- In the search bar at the bottom, type Jomo, then select Redeem Time.
- In the blue field, enter the exact name of your Routine. Be sure to match the name exactly, including capitalization.
- Tap ✓ / Done to save. (iOS 27: Tap the < button in the top-left corner to go back.)

2. Add "Stop Redeem Time" automation
To stop redeeming time when you close the app, you’ll need to create a second automation.
Follow the same steps as above, but in step 8, select Stop Redeem Time instead of Redeem Time.

Why Did We Make This Change?
We wanted to offer more ways to earn time than simply walking or running. You can now choose from a much wider variety of actions and habits, allowing you to pick whatever feels most motivating and relevant to you. It’s a trade-off, but one that gives you even more flexibility to reduce your screen time while building healthier habits along the way.
